Dr Sanvir Sirriram received his undergraduate medical training at Nelson R Mandela School of Medicine (UKZN) in 2009, where he attained his Bachelor of Medicine & Surgery degree (MBChB).

In 2014 he entered a formal 4-year training program to become a Specialist Physician at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital (CHBAH) through the University of Witwatersrand (WITS) and the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa (CMSA).

Three years later, in 2017, he was conferred with his Master of Medicine (MMed) in Internal Medicine and became a Fellow of the College of Physicians of South Africa.

It was during his training in Internal Medicine that his passion for Rheumatology developed, and why, after completing his qualification as a Specialist Physician, he immediately entered a formal 3-year training program in Rheumatology at CHBAH.

While qualifying as a Rheumatologist, Dr Sirriram continued to work as a Consultant in Internal Medicine and was involved in the education and training of undergraduate medical students, general practitioners, and specialists.

In 2018, Dr Sirriram received the African League Against Rheumatism (AFLAR) scholarship to attend the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) annual meeting, held in Chicago (USA) in 2018. The ACR annual meeting features exceptional sessions of the latest rheumatology research and clinical applications from leading rheumatology experts.

After attaining his Rheumatology Sub-specialty qualification, he decided to relocate back to Durban. There is a lack of Rheumatology services in the North Coast and he aims to bring his speciality closer to patients who reside in the region.

Dr Sirriram is a member of the SARAA Young Rheumatologist Forum, which provides a voice for new and training rheumatologists, as well as an outlet to address the needs and concerns of the young rheumatology community.

“I was so happy to see there was a Rheumatologist available in the North Coast, as there are very few Rheumatologists in the region. Dr Sirriram is very caring and approachable; he has helped me a lot! He injected my knees and optimised my Gout treatment, which allowed me to walk properly and greatly improved my quality of life.

– Mr Sipho Khuzwayo

I have been to other Doctors who rush the consultation, this was not the case with Dr Siriram. He was very reassuring and knowledgeable, he took the time to listen to me – I felt like I was talking to a friend. After seeing Dr Sirriram I feel more confident, my arthritis has settled down, and I have gained insight into my condition. Sr Sirriram is also a younger Doctor who knows about the newest treatments available.

– Mr D. Narain

I saw Dr Sirriram for treatment of SLE, I really liked how friendly, understanding and informative he was during my consultation. I would definitely recommend Dr Sirriram to other patients suffering from Lupus, he gave me better understanding of my disease and made me feel more at ease about my condition.

– Mrs Priyanka Naidoo

Dr Sirriram is a very kind Doctor, he explained my treatment options and medications in detail, all while showing he understood my suffering. He gave me hope.

– Mrs Rose Potgieter

I have been to many Doctors before… but Dr Siriram really left a lasting impression on me. He was very thorough with his history and examination, I was very impressed with the level of detail he provided. He makes you feel so comfortable, and he really listens to his patients. I am truly grateful for all he has done for me

– Mr R. Govender
