Get in touchDr Sanvir Sirriram received his undergraduate medical training at Nelson R Mandela School of Medicine (UKZN) in 2009, where he attained his Bachelor of Medicine & Surgery degree (MBChB).
In 2014 he entered a formal 4-year training program to become a Specialist Physician at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital (CHBAH) through the University of Witwatersrand (WITS) and the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa (CMSA).
Three years later, in 2017, he was conferred with his Master of Medicine (MMed) in Internal Medicine and became a Fellow of the College of Physicians of South Africa.
It was during his training in Internal Medicine that his passion for Rheumatology developed, and why, after completing his qualification as a Specialist Physician, he immediately entered a formal 3-year training program in Rheumatology at CHBAH.
While qualifying as a Rheumatologist, Dr Sirriram continued to work as a Consultant in Internal Medicine and was involved in the education and training of undergraduate medical students, general practitioners, and specialists.
In 2018, Dr Sirriram received the African League Against Rheumatism (AFLAR) scholarship to attend the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) annual meeting, held in Chicago (USA) in 2018. The ACR annual meeting features exceptional sessions of the latest rheumatology research and clinical applications from leading rheumatology experts.
After attaining his Rheumatology Sub-specialty qualification, he decided to relocate back to Durban. There is a lack of Rheumatology services in the North Coast and he aims to bring his speciality closer to patients who reside in the region.
Dr Sirriram is a member of the SARAA Young Rheumatologist Forum, which provides a voice for new and training rheumatologists, as well as an outlet to address the needs and concerns of the young rheumatology community.
